Spicy Memories, Card Games, and Digital Worlds
Well, it’s been a minute. Over a month, actually. I wouldn’t call it a rut, but I’ve definitely been wading through some thick, murky waters. On the bright side, the projects are getting done. I wrapped up a Fallout-themed Magic Mirror/Dakboard that turned out chef's kiss. A couple of modded guitars found new homes, along with some thrifted items that clearly needed to spark joy elsewhere.
Birthdays have been hitting left and right—one of my goblins had theirs, and then there was mine, my dad’s, and a few of those emotionally "spicy" anniversaries. You know, the ones that punch you in the face with memories you didn’t really invite to the party. Life keeps moving, though, and so do I.
I’ve been losing myself in Elden Ring—the perfect escape into chaotic beauty—and deck builders. Lots of deck builders. Let’s Summon Demons is a hilarious hit, and the DC Deck-Building Game has been keeping my inner nerd happy. Also, somehow, Magic: The Gathering has slithered its way into my life. It’s like it was just waiting to make me broke.
On the music side, I’ve dusted off the drums and started banging out some beats again. I forgot how satisfying it is to absolutely annihilate a drum kit—digital or otherwise.
For the biz, I’ve lent out a few PSPs to help spread some buzz and get people talking about what I do. Nothing beats word-of-mouth advertising when it comes from people holding your actual work. I also set up a retro Wii for a friend’s dad, and he’s obsessed. Like, so obsessed I might need to whip up another one just so he doesn’t fall into existential crisis mode if he has to give it back.
The 9-5 is smooth—almost too smooth. There’s a position opening up soon that has my attention. Not going to hold my breath, but who knows?
On the gaming front, I helped fire up a Valheim server with a friend. It’s a world so detailed and expansive, it feels alive on its own. My buddy built most of it, and I just made it accessible 24/7 for other players. No need to coordinate schedules—just log in, explore, and keep building. It’s a digital masterpiece in progress.
All in all, it’s been a strange mix of productivity, emotional landmines, and nerdy escapism. But that’s life, right? Always a little chaotic, a little cathartic, and never quite what you expect.
